About Zootopia 2 Movie

Zootopia 2 is an American animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by Jared Bush, with Byron Howard returning as co-director. It serves as the sequel to the 2016 hit film Zootopia.

The project was confirmed by Disney CEO Bob Iger on February 8, 2023, during a Q1 earnings call. That same day, screenwriter Jared Bush announced his involvement in the sequel’s development. Voice actors Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman also expressed enthusiasm for their respective roles as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, hinting at new character dynamics and plot developments.

On February 7, 2024, Iger revealed the film’s official title and release date. By April 15, Ginnifer Goodwin confirmed via Instagram that production was underway, sharing that she had started recording her lines for Judy.

At the D23 Expo on August 9, the introduction of reptiles as new characters was announced, with Ke Huy Quan cast as Gary, a snake pursued by Judy and Nick. A sequence featuring Marsh Market was also previewed. The next day, Bush revealed that Fortune Feimster would voice Nibbles, a beaver character. It was also disclosed that Bush would be the sole writer and director of the film, while Yvett Merino was named producer.

In September, Jared Bush was promoted to chief creative officer of Walt Disney Animation Studios, succeeding Jennifer Lee. Following this, he confirmed Byron Howard’s return as co-director. At D23 Brazil on November 8, Shakira announced her return as Gazelle, revealing that she was creating a new song for the film and that her character would have a new outfit.

Zootopia 2 is scheduled to be released in the United States by Walt Disney Pictures on November 26, 2025.
