Yadang: The Snitch (야당) is a South Korean crime action film directed by Hwang Byeong-guk and written by Kim Hyo-seok. It stars Kang Ha-neul, Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-joon, Ryu Kyung-soo, and Chae Won-bin.

Director Hwang Byeong-guk’s movie Yadang: The Snitch was motivated by a genuine news piece on drug investigation informants. Hwang did great field research, interviewing over 100 people, including narcotics agents and former brokers, during which he was wrongly imprisoned and drug tested, to guarantee realism. Sets created by art director Lee Mok-won, famed for Train to Busan and Along with the Gods, mirror both the physical and psychological elements of the tale, therefore improving the film’s immersive atmosphere.

Having previously worked with Hwang, Park Hae-joon was cast as detective Oh Sang-jae; Chae Won-bin was selected as Uhm Soo-jin following a demanding audition process.

Filming lasted from July 2023 until November 2023.

Along with social media campaigns to increase awareness of drug crimes in Korea, the film partnered with the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency for a national anti-drug campaign distributing drug-testing kits and showing PSAs at early screenings.

Yadang: The Snitch Storyline (Plot)

Lee Kang-soo, who was falsely accused and imprisoned, is offered a deal by prosecutor Koo Gwan-hee: become a yadang (an informant or undercover operative) in exchange for a reduced sentence. Kang-soo takes the deal and begins to shake up the drug investigation from the inside. Meanwhile, the ambitious Gwan-hee climbs the ranks with major busts, thanks to the intel provided by Kang-soo.

But narcotics detective Oh Sang-jae repeatedly hits dead ends because of Kang-soo’s double-dealings. With dogged determination, Sang-jae begins digging into the connection between Kang-soo and Gwan-hee.
