Storyline
A retired rodeo legend risks it all to save his grandson. Facing his own painful past and the fears of his family, he enters a high-stakes bull-riding competition as the oldest contestant ever. Along the way, he reconciles old wounds with his estranged daughter and proves that true courage is found in the fight for family.
About The Last Rodeo Movie
The Last Rodeo is an upcoming American drama film written and directed by Jon Avnet. The film stars Neal McDonough, who also serves as a writer and producer, alongside Mykelti Williamson, Christopher McDonald, Sarah Jones, and professional bull rider Daylon Swearingen.
The film marks a reunion for Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson with director Jon Avnet, their first collaboration since the TV series Boomtown (2002).
Due to his strong religious beliefs, Neal McDonough has always declined romantic roles and refused to kiss anyone other than his wife, Ruve McDonough. In this film, Ruve appears in flashback scenes as the wife of his character, making this the first film in which McDonough shares an on-screen kiss—with his real-life wife.
Filming took place in Owasso and Collinsville, Oklahoma, between March and April 2024. The film is produced by Angel Studios, making it the first movie to be both produced and distributed by the studio.
