After its debut on Netflix, Canadian sitcom North of North may be getting a second season after a major production update surfaced online.

The end of Season 1 of North of North gave an exciting conclusion to Siaja’s journey, who reconnected with her long-lost father, reconnected with her mother, and may or may not have found the new love of her life–despite a major setback.

The comedy series received high praise from fans and critics due to its authentic portrayal of Inuk culture and its engaging storyline, leaving viewers to wonder if a sophomore run is in the cards. On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, North of North has an approval rating of 100% based on 18 critics’ reviews.

The series was created by Stacey Aglok MacDonald and Alethea Arnaquq-Baril. Directors include Anya Adams, Danis Goulet, Aleysa Young, Zoe Leigh Hopkins, and Renuka Jeyapalan.

Anna Lambe plays Siaja, a young Inuk woman in the small fictional Arctic community of Ice Cove, alongside Mary Lynn Rajskub, Tanya Tagaq, Keira Cooper, Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Jay Ryan, Kelly William, Zorga Qaunaq, Nutaaq Simmonds, and Bailey Poching.

North of North premiered in Canada on APTN and CBC on January 7, 2025, After aquiring global distribution rights, Netflix premiered globally on April 10, 2025.

Will there be a season 2 of North of North?

In an interview with ScreenRant while promoting North of North, star Anna Lambe discussed the possibility of a second season. Lambe admitted she has not received any updates but added, “there’s always hope.” She also shared her personal wishes, saying, “I want to know what happens next,” and expressed her hope for the characters to find happiness. Additionally, Lambe thanked viewers who have “fallen in love with all of these characters.”

All in all, it looks like Netflix is giving North of North Season 1 a little extra time to gain an audience before they decide to renew or cancel the show. The show’s premiere viewership has not been spectacular, as it did not even appear on Netflix’s weekly Top 10 list globally or in Canada for English-language series. However, since the show likely has a low budget, it may not need to become a major hit to warrant a second season.
