Storyline:
Set against the vibrant backdrop of a 1960s-inspired, retro-futuristic world. [The film follows] Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). And if Galactus’ plan to devour the entire planet and everyone on it weren’t bad enough, it suddenly gets very personal.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics team, the Fantastic Four. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is set to be the 37th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the second reboot of the Fantastic Four film series.
Directed by Matt Shakman, the screenplay is penned by Jeff Kaplan, Ian Springer, Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires, Eric Pearson, and Peter Cameron. The ensemble cast features Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the Fantastic Four, alongside Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
After 20th Century Fox’s failed Fantastic Four (2015), Disney’s acquisition of Fox in March 2019 transferred the franchise to Marvel Studios, which announced the new film in July 2019. Jon Watts was initially set to direct in December 2020 but stepped down in April 2022, with Shakman replacing him in September 2022.
By early 2023, casting was underway, and Friedman joined the project to rewrite the script in March, followed by Squires and Cameron. Marvel Studios aimed to create a new story for the characters rather than retell their origin.
Principal photography began on July 30, 2024, at Pinewood Studios in London under the working title Blue Moon. The film was shot for IMAX, with Jess Hall as cinematographer. Location shoots included Durdle Door in Dorset, England, in mid-October, and scenes at the Palace of Congresses in Oviedo, Spain, serving as the United Nations headquarters in the film. Additional filming took place at the Middleton mine in Derbyshire Dales, England, wrapping at the end of November 2024.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps is scheduled for release in the United States on July 25, 2025, in IMAX. It will be the first film of Phase Six of the MCU, having previously been scheduled for November 8, 2024, February 14, 2025, and May 2, 2025.
