The Diplomat Storyline
The film follows real-life Indian diplomat J. P. Singh. His world is turned upside down when Uzma Ahmed, a woman seeking refuge, arrives at the embassy. Uzma claims to be an Indian citizen who was abducted and forced to marry a Pakistani man. As tensions rise, Singh must navigate the complexities of international diplomacy, legal systems, and the pressure from both the Indian and Pakistani governments to resolve the matter. The film delves into the moral and ethical challenges faced by diplomats when personal lives are entwined with state affairs.

The Diplomat is a Hindi action thriller film directed by Shivam Nair and written by Ritesh Shah. The film stars John Abraham, Sadia Khateeb, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, and Sharib Hashmi. It is produced under the banners of Fortune Films, JA Entertainment, T-Series, and Wakaoo Films.
The film is inspired by the true story of Indian diplomat J.P. Singh, who embarks on a mission to bring back an Indian girl from Pakistan after she was allegedly deceived and forced into marriage against her will.
The film’s score was composed by Ishaan Chhabra, with cinematography by Dimo Popov and Msc Gyd, while Kunal Walve handled the editing.
The film was officially announced on July 1, 2023, with its first look poster. Principal photography commenced in mid-2024, with the majority of the film shot in Delhi, including real embassy locations for added authenticity. To accurately depict Islamabad, select scenes were filmed at international locations. Director Shivam Nair collaborated closely with diplomatic consultants to capture the nuances of a high-stakes diplomatic setting. Filming was completed by late 2024.
The marketing campaign for The Diplomat began with the release of the first look poster in January 2025, followed by a teaser and the official trailer, which was dropped on February 14, 2025.

The Diplomat was theatrically released on March 14, 2025, concluding Holi Day. The film was earlier planned to be released in theatres on March 7, 2025.
Following its theatrical run, the film will be made available for streaming on Netflix. The film’s satellite rights have been acquired by Sony MAX, ensuring a wide reach on television as well.
