Storyline

In 1930s Chicago, Frankenstein asks Dr. Euphronius to help create a companion. They give life to a murdered woman as the Bride, sparking romance, police interest, and radical social change.

About The Bride! Movie

The Bride! is an upcoming American monster horror film written and directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The film stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Penélope Cruz, Peter Sarsgaard, and Annette Bening. The film draws inspiration from James Whale’s 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein, itself adapted from Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus.

In August 2023, reports surfaced about a planned remake of the 1935 film Bride of Frankenstein on Netflix, with Maggie Gyllenhaal set to write and direct. The film was expected to star Penélope Cruz, Christian Bale, and Peter Sarsgaard. However, later that month, it was reported that Netflix had dropped the project following the 2023 Hollywood strikes, shifting its focus to a separate Frankenstein film by Guillermo del Toro. By November 2023, new reports confirmed that Warner Bros. Pictures had taken over production of the adaptation.

Director Maggie Gyllenhaal cast her real-life husband, Peter Sarsgaard, in a significant role in the film.
