Storyline
Three people’s worlds collide during a historic international cricket test match in Chennai, which ultimately forces them to make life-changing, difficult decisions.
About Test Movie
Test is a highly anticipated Tamil sports drama film written and directed by S. Sashikanth, with Suman Kumar co-writing the screenplay. The film stars R. Madhavan, Nayanthara, Siddharth, and Meera Jasmine in lead roles. It marks Sashikanth’s debut as a director and celebrates Meera Jasmine’s long-awaited comeback to Tamil cinema after ten years.
In April 2023, it was confirmed that film producer S. Sashikanth would make his directorial debut with this sports drama under his banner, YNOT Studios. He cast R. Madhavan and Siddharth in the lead roles, reuniting them after their work together in Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004) and Rang De Basanti (2006). Nayanthara was selected as the female lead.
The film Test was officially announced on April 12, 2023, coinciding with the start of principal photography. The first schedule began in Chennai, with key actors like Kaali Venkat joining the shoot. On May 9, the makers made another major revelation—Meera Jasmine had joined the cast, marking her long-awaited comeback. She was paired opposite Madhavan, reigniting their on-screen chemistry after two decades, following their collaborations in Run (2002) and Aayutha Ezhuthu (2004).
By June 17, 2023, Madhavan had completed filming his portions. The second schedule commenced in Bengaluru in late September, and Nayanthara wrapped up her scenes by January 8, 2024. Meera Jasmine finished her part later that month. Finally, on January 31, the filming was officially completed, with post-production beginning in early February.
The technical team of Test features Viraj Singh Gohil as the cinematographer, with editing by T. S. Suresh and music composed by Shakthisree Gopalan. Visual effects are managed by OK Vijay, while sound design is overseen by Kunal Rajan and M. R. Rajakrishnan. Additionally, Siddharth Sadashiv handled sync sound recording to ensure high-quality audio.
The first teaser of Test was unveiled on February 3, 2025, generating excitement among fans. On March 13, 2025, cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin further amped up the anticipation by sharing a special glimpse of Siddharth’s character on social media, adding to the film’s promotional buzz.
In October 2024, reports suggested that Test would skip a theatrical release and premiere directly on Netflix. This was officially confirmed in early February 2025 when Netflix unveiled its lineup of original films and series for the year, with Test being one of the featured titles.
