About Talk to Me Movie
Talk to Me is an Australian supernatural horror film directed by Danny and Michael Philippou in their feature directorial debuts and written by Danny Philippou and Bill Hinzman. Based on a concept by Daley Pearson, the film stars Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, Chris Alosio, Marcus Johnson, and Alexandria Steffensen.
This film marks Sophie Wilde’s first lead starring role in a theatrical feature film.
Six hands were made for the movie should any of them happen to get damaged or broken. Director Danny Philippou kept one of the hands.
The directors only had a few days of the shoot where they had access to a two-camera setup, so they saved it for scenes like the emotional scene between Mia and her father as he reads her mother’s suicide note. They felt some pressure to save it for more action-oriented sequences, but the dual performances, each feeding off the other, was more important to them.
The film is set in Adelaide, Australia, the hometown of directors Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. This project was financed with support from the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC). The film received major production investment from Screen Australia, in association with the SAFC, and was financed with support from the Adelaide Film Festival, Gold Standard, and KOJO Studios.
The film was banned in Kuwait due to the appearance of trans actor Zoe Terakes, who is non-binary and transmasculine. Their character’s gender identity is not mentioned in the film, although it is made pretty clear by the consistent usage of the singular “they” for their character.
