About Parugu Movie

Parugu is a Telugu romantic action film directed by Bhaskar and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Starring Allu Arjun, Sheela Kaur, and Prakash Raj, the film features music by Mani Sharma, with cinematography by Vijay K. Chakravarthy and editing by Marthand K. Venkatesh.

Following Arya (2004), Dil Raju aimed to produce another film with Allu Arjun, initially considering Sukumar as the director. However, the project materialized when Bhaskar pitched a subject that both Raju and Arjun accepted. The film was officially launched on 15 March 2007.

Initially, Devi Sri Prasad was chosen as the music director, but Mani Sharma later replaced him. The film underwent multiple title considerations, including Romeo, Premikudu, Enta Ghaatu Premayo, Araku, and Varadhi, before being finalized as Parugu. Director Bhaskar mentioned that the film was inspired by real-life events.

Allu Arjun had to shed weight after Desamuduru and adopt a common middle-class look with a short hairstyle. While Vedhicka and Priyamani were initially considered for the female lead, Sheela was finalized. Prakash Raj played a significant role, which he regarded as one of his best. Other notable cast members included Subbaraju in a negative role, Poonam Bajwa in a cameo, and comedian Saptagiri, who made his debut.

Filming began in June 2007, with schedules in Kodaikanal, Kerala, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, and Jordan for song sequences. By April 2008, 90% of the shoot was complete, with final scenes wrapping up soon after.

The film was later remade in Odia as Sanju Aau Sanjana (2010), Nepali as Dabab (2013), and Hindi as Heropanti (2014). The Malayalam-dubbed version, Krishna, was a box-office blockbuster.

Parugu was released worldwide on 1 May 2008 to positive reviews and became commercially successful, earning a distributor share of ₹20 crore.
