Storyline
Set during the partition of India in 1947, the film follows the story of a Muslim family that migrates from Lucknow to Lahore. Upon their arrival, they are allocated a haveli (mansion) that was vacated by a Hindu family fleeing the area due to the partition. The plot thickens when the family discovers an elderly Hindu woman still residing in the haveli. This unexpected encounter leads to rising tensions and complex emotional dynamics as the characters navigate their new reality amidst the backdrop of one of the most tumultuous periods in Indian history.

Lahore 1947 is an upcoming Hindi period action drama film, based on Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nai Dekhya O Jamyai Ni’ (“One who has not seen Lahore has not been born”). The film is directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and produced by Aamir Khan under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions.
The film stars Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the lead roles. The film’s music is composed by A. R. Rahman.
This film will mark the comeback of Preity Zinta after a 7-year hiatus.
The film marks the reunion of director Rajkumar Santoshi with Aamir Khan and Sunny Deol, who have previously collaborated on successful films.
In 2008, Rajkumar Santoshi planned a film adaptation of Asghar Wajahat’s play Jis Lahore Nahin Dekhya Woh Jamiya Nahin, starring Sanjay Dutt, Vidya Balan, Salman Khan, and Neil Nitin Mukesh. Nitish Roy recreated Lahore’s partition-era details on a Hyderabad set. By 2012, the cast shifted to Pankaj Kapur, Manisha Koirala, and Shahid Kapoor, but the project stalled. In 2014, Anil Kapoor and Armaan Jain joined, but delays persisted. By 2015, Randeep Hooda replaced Kapoor, with Jain still attached. The film was eventually shelved for unknown reasons.
The film went on floors in February 2024 and completed its production by August 2024.

Lahore 1947 was initially planned for release on 26 January 2025. However, it has now been pushed to June 2025 due to extensive post-production work.
