Storyline:

The second installment of a trilogy, the film acts as a prequel and sequel that covers, the journey of Stephen Nedumpally, a man leading a double life as Khureshi Ab’raam, an enigmatic leader of a powerful global crime syndicate.

About L2: Empuraan Movie:

L2: Empuraan is an upcoming Malayalam action thriller film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and written by Murali Gopy. The film is also marketed with the short title L2E by the makers. Serving as the second installment in a planned trilogy, the film is a sequel to the 2019 blockbuster Lucifer.

The movie features Mohanlal reprising his role as Khureshi-Ab’raam / Stephen Nedumpally, alongside an ensemble cast that includes Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Saniya Iyappan, Saikumar, Baiju Santhosh, Fazil, and Sachin Khedekar, all of whom return from the original film

Lucifer was always intended to be a series from its inception, originally conceived as a three-part film. The first part was made into the film Lucifer. The success of the first film led to the decision to proceed with the second installment in the series.

The announcement for L2: Empuraan was made in June 2019, shortly after the success of Lucifer. Initially, production was scheduled to begin in mid-2020, but the project faced significant delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The screenplay was finalised in July 2022, and pre-production began the following month.

Principal photography began on October 5, 2023, in Faridabad. Subsequent sporadic schedules took place at various locations, including Shimla, Leh, United Kingdom, United States, Chennai, Gujarat, Hyderabad, United Arab Emirates, Mumbai, and Kerala. The final shot of the film was captured during the early hours on December 1st, the 145th day of production, as confirmed by the film’s director and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.

As announced by the team, Lucifer is a trilogy, implying the existence of a third film as a continuation of the series. During a September 2019 event, Prithviraj mentioned that the third film will explore a much darker theme in the series.

L2: Empuraan Release Date:

L2: Empuraan is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on March 27, 2025, coinciding with the sixth anniversary of Lucifer. Besides its original release in Malayalam, the film would be released in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi languages. The film will also be available in IMAX formats, promising an immersive cinematic experience.
