About Jana Nayagan Movie

Jana Nayagan is an upcoming Tamil political action thriller film written and directed by H. Vinoth. The movie stars Vijay, Pooja Hegde, and Bobby Deol in the main roles, with a strong supporting cast that includes Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar.

The film marks the second collaboration between Vijay and Pooja Hegde after the 2022 film Beast.

Jana Nayagan is intended to be Vijay’s most anticipated film, marking his final project before stepping into politics. It’s also a major milestone for KVN Productions, as it will be their first Tamil production.

While working on Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru and Mersal (both 2017), director Vinoth had pitched a script to Vijay, but it was initially declined. Vinoth then took the script to Kamal Haasan, who liked it and signed him for his 233rd film. However, the project was put on hold due to delays with Indian 2 (2024) and Indian 3 (2025). Later, Vinoth returned to Vijay with the same script and this time Vijay accepted, reportedly sealing a ₹275 crore (US$32 million) deal, making him the highest-paid Indian actor, surpassing Shah Rukh Khan and Rajinikanth.

The project was initially set to be announced on June 22, 2024, Vijay’s birthday, with shooting scheduled to begin the following month. However, it was postponed at the actor’s request.

The film was officially announced on September 14, 2024, under the tentative title Thalapathy 69, as it is Vijay’s 69th film as a lead actor. The official title of the film was revealed on January 26, 2025, along with the first-look poster.

Principal photography for Jana Nayagan began on October 5, 2024, with the first schedule at Prasad Studios in Chennai. The filming kicked off with a grand song sequence featuring Vijay and Pooja Hegde, along with 500 background artists, choreographed by Sekhar.

The makers plan to wrap up filming by May 2025, allowing Vijay to focus on his political commitments. By late January, the production house confirmed that around 69% of the filming had been completed.

Seven Screen Studio reportedly acquired the Tamil Nadu theatrical rights for ₹100 crore (US$12 million). The overseas distribution rights were sold to Phars Film for ₹78 crore (US$9 million), making it the highest-ever deal for a Tamil film. Distribution rights for Europe were secured by 4 Seasons Creations, while Boleyn Cinemas will handle the film’s distribution across the United Kingdom.

Jana Nayagan Release Date

Jana Nayagan was originally scheduled for a theatrical release on October 17, 2025, but it has been postponed. The film will be released in multiple languages, including Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu, making it accessible to a wide audience.
