About Aashiqui Movie
It is the first installment of the Aashiqui film series, released in 1990, and features Rahul Roy, Anu Aggarwal, and Deepak Tijori in key roles. Directed by Mahesh Bhatt, the film is best known for its timeless soundtrack, composed by Nadeem-Shravan with lyrics by Sameer. The music played a crucial role in the film’s success, making it one of the most cherished romantic albums in Bollywood history.
According to ‘Mahesh Bhatt’, a big part of the film is inspired by his real-life relationship with his first wife Kiran Bhatt, where he educated her as a typist. The college scenes in this film are the real story of Mahesh Bhatt and his wife Kiran when they were students.
After the success of the film singer Kumar Sanu became an overnight star he sang almost all the songs in the film which proved to be a big hit. The soundtrack album has been rated the 4th best ever by Planet Bollywood on their “100 Greatest Bollywood Soundtracks”
Mahesh Bhatt wanted his daughter Pooja Bhatt in the lead role. But Pooja Bhatt was not ready to be an actress in 1989.
Mahesh Bhatt used to call Anu Aggarwal a one-take artist. She never needed a second take, not for a single shot. During the entire shooting, she gave perfect shots just in a single take.
The film was remade in Kannada as Roja (2002).
A sequel to the film, Aashiqui 2, with a completely new theme, directed by Mohit Suri with Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, was released on 26 April 2013. Commercially, the sequel surpassed the collections of Aashiqui, becoming a blockbuster. After the success of the first two installments, the producers announced a third installment, as Aashiqui 3 directed by Anurag Basu with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela in the lead roles. The movie is set to release on Diwali 2025.
