About Aashiqui 2 Movie
Aashiqui 2 serves as a spiritual successor to the 1990 romantic musical drama film Aashiqui. Starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles, the film is directed by Mohit Suri and written by Shagufta Rafique.
Before filming began, Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor participated in a workshop together. This helped them break the ice and build a natural rapport, ensuring their on-screen chemistry felt authentic and deeply emotional.
This movie is a remake of the Hollywood movie “A Star is Born” (1937). Production of the film began in 2011, with the principal photography taking place in Cape Town, Goa, and Mumbai on a budget of ₹18 crore (US$2.1 million).
Imran Abbas Naqvi and Sushant Singh Rajput were both initially offered the role of Rahul Jaykar. However, due to contractual obligations with other film projects, they had to decline the opportunity.
Aashiqui 2 marked Aditya Roy Kapur’s first film as a lead actor. He had previously made his Bollywood debut with London Dreams (2009) and played supporting roles in films like Guzaarish and Action Replayy (both released in 2010).
When Aashiqui 2 was first announced, many speculated that it might not live up to the legacy of the 1990 classic Aashiqui, which is considered a cult favorite among romantic musical films. However, defying all expectations, the film went on to become a massive hit.
After the success of the first two installments, the producers announced a third installment, Aashiqui 3 directed by Anurag Basu with Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela in the lead roles. The movie is set to release on Diwali 2025.
Aashiqui 2 Movie Release Date
Aashiqui 2 was released on April 26, 2013, across more than 1,100 screens in India. Initially, the film was planned for a Valentine’s Day release on February 14, 2013, to align with its romantic theme. However, due to production delays, the release was postponed.
