Storyline

Queen Won Gyeong, born to Min Je in the Goryeo period, comes from a prestigious family of high-ranking officials. She marries Yi Bang Won (Prince Jeong An), son of King Tae Jo, founder of the Joseon dynasty. When King Tae Jo names his second son, Yi Bang Gwa, as the successor, Lady Min and her husband plot to make Yi Bang Won the next king. After Yi Bang Won becomes King Tae Jong, he takes multiple concubines, causing tension with Queen Won Gyeong. As her relationship with the king worsens, King Tae Jong seeks to control her and her family to strengthen his authority.

The Queen Who Crowns (Korean: 원경) is a South Korean historical television series starring Cha Joo-young in the title role, alongside Lee Hyun-wook, Lee Yi-dam, and Lee Si-a.

Directed by Kim Sang-ho, known for his work on Couple or Trouble (2006), Arang and the Magistrate (2012), Avengers Social Club (2017), and Money Game (2020), the series features a screenplay by Lee Young-mi, who also penned Money Game. The show is produced by Studio Dragon and JS Pictures.

The production of the series was confirmed by tvN and TVING on October 26, 2023, with Cha Joo-young cast as Queen Wongyeong and Lee Hyun-wook as Lee Bang-won. Filming for the series concluded in June 2024.

The OST lineup, featuring Sohyang, Yu Da-bin, Lim Han-byul, and Jukjae, was announced by Vlending on December 27, 2024.

The Queen Who Crowns Release Date

Although initially slated for a release in the second half of 2024, the series was postponed. On October 7, 2024, it was revealed that The Queen Who Crowns would premiere in January 2025, airing every Monday and Tuesday. The series will make its pre-release on TVING at 14:00 (KST) on January 6, 2025, followed by its premiere on tvN at 20:50 (KST).
