Title conflict
In 2022, an unrelated American series with the same title, The Diplomat, was announced. Set in London, the series revolves around a new United States ambassador to the UK. It was released worldwide on Netflix on 20 April 2023, just a few weeks after the British series wrapped up its first season. According to the British newspaper i, an unnamed source close to the UK series expressed frustration with the title choice of the Netflix series, citing concerns that it could confuse viewers and complicate international rights sales, which are managed by BBC Studios. Despite the potential confusion, neither party has expressed a willingness to change the title.
