About The Amateur Movie
The Amateur is directed by James Hawes, with a screenplay by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, based on the 1981 spy novel of the same name by Robert Littell. It is the second adaptation to be made following the 1981 film.
The film is produced by Hutch Parker, Dan Wilson, Rami Malek, and Joel B. Michaels, with JJ Hook serving as the executive producer. The film stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Jon Bernthal, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, Adrian Martinez, Danny Sapani, and Laurence Fishburne.
A new adaptation of Robert Littell’s novel was first announced in November 2006, with Hugh Jackman set to star and Evan Katz writing the screenplay. In February 2023, Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson were confirmed as producers for 20th Century Studios, with James Hawes directing and Rami Malek taking on the lead role.
Principal photography began in London in June 2023, with additional filming planned across southeast England, France, and Turkey. However, production was halted in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming completed in December 2023.
