About The Agency TV Series

In February 2023, Showtime gave a straight-to-series order for The Agency, based on the French espionage series The Bureau, created, directed, and produced by Eric Rochant. Initially titled The Department, the series is produced by George Clooney and Grant Heslov’s Smokehouse Pictures, MTV Entertainment Studios, and 101 Studios. Executive producers include Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz of MTVE Studios, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari of 101 Studios, Alex Berger for The Originals Productions, and Ashley Stern and Pascal Breton for Federation Studios/Federation Entertainment of America.

Joe Wright will direct the first two episodes, with Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth writing all 10 episodes. Clooney was initially set to direct.

Production began in June 2024, with the series retitled The Agency. Michael Fassbender joined as both an executive producer and lead actor, taking over a role originally played by Mathieu Kassovitz in the French series. Shortly after, Jeffrey Wright, Richard Gere, Jodie Turner-Smith, Katherine Waterston, and John Magaro were added to the cast.

In August 2024, further cast members were announced, including Alex Reznik, Andrew Brooke, Harriet Sansom Harris, India Fowler, and Saura Lightfoot-Leon.

Filming for the movie occurred in various locations in 2024, including London. Additional filming took place in Tallinn, Estonia, in September 2024, and in Cairo, Egypt, in October 2024.

In December 2024, the series was renewed for a second season.
