About Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles TV Series
Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is an animated television series developed by Candie and Doug Langdale. The show is loosely based on the Usagi Yojimbo comic books by Stan Sakai. Unlike its source material, where the comics take place in the past, the show takes place in the future and Miyamoto Usagi is not the lead protagonist, the character instead appearing in a minor role, with Yuki Matsuzaki reprising his role from the 2012 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
In February 2018, it was officially announced that a CGI adaptation of the beloved comics was in development by Gaumont Animation. Fast forward to mid-July 2020, Gaumont confirmed that this adaptation would take the form of a Netflix series titled Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, in collaboration with Netflix Animation.
The project also saw the involvement of production companies Atomic Monster and Dark Horse Entertainment, with the CGI animation being crafted by Mumbai-based studio 88 Pictures. Khang Le is set to lead the artistic vision as the art director.
Doug and Candie Langdale are on board as show-runners and executive producers for the series. At the virtual Comic-Con@Home event in July 2021, the main voice cast was unveiled, featuring Darren Barnet in the prominent role of Yuichi Usagi.
Additionally, in April 2022, Yuki Matsuzaki announced that he would be reprising his role as Miyamoto Usagi, having previously voiced the character in the 2012 version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated series.
