About One Battle After Another Movie

One Battle After Another is an upcoming American crime thriller film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Sean Penn, Alana Haim, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, and Benicio del Toro.

In June 2023, Warner Bros. Pictures acquired Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film, which was initially rumored to star Regina Hall, Viggo Mortensen, and Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix dropped out and the role was recast with Leonardo DiCaprio.

By January 2024, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, and Regina Hall were officially confirmed as part of the cast. The following month, Alana Haim, Wood Harris, Teyana Taylor, Shayna McHayle, and Chase Infiniti also joined the project. DiCaprio reportedly earned $20 million for his role in the film.

Principal photography for the film began in California on January 22, 2024, under the working title BC Project. The production was filmed for eleven days in Humboldt County, covering locations in Arcata, Cutten, Eureka, and Trinidad.

On February 3, filming moved to Sacramento, with scenes shot at the Sacramento County Administration Building and Sacramento County Courthouse. The production sparked controversy when a homeless encampment was cleared to accommodate filming.

In June 2024, additional on-location filming took place in El Paso, Texas. The film was shot on 35 mm film using VistaVision cameras.

The film marks the sixth collaboration between director Paul Thomas Anderson and composer Jonny Greenwood. It is also the fifth and final collaboration between Anderson and first assistant director Adam Somner, who passed away in November 2024.

In February 2024, Variety reported that the film had been greenlit with a $115 million production budget. The report stated that the film would need to gross $300 million to turn a profit.

One Battle After Another is scheduled to be released on September 26, 2025, by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was previously scheduled to be released on August 8, 2025, but was moved for a potential awards season run.
