About Night of the Zoopocalypse Movie
Night of the Zoopocalypse (originally titled Night of the Zoombies) is an animated comedy horror film directed by storyboard artists Ricardo Curtis and Rodrigo Perez-Castro, written by James Kee and produced by Steven Hoban. The film is inspired by a concept from Clive Barker and based on his short story “Zoombies.”
In 2015, Steven Hoban announced that Clive Barker’s “Zoombies” had been optioned for a feature film. Initially, the film was set to be animated by Tangent Animation, but after the studio’s closure, production moved to L’Atelier Animation and Mac Guff. Storyboard and pre-production work were handled by House of Cool. During production, a creative decision was made to give only some of the animals a realistic fur texture, which was meant to highlight the contrast between the mutant and normal characters, while also helping to reduce costs. Additionally, the filmmakers opted for a low-budget horror aesthetic, utilizing lighting and fog to achieve the desired atmosphere.
On August 3, 2021, Tangent Animation announced that they were shutting down production on all of their projects, including Night of the Zoopocalypse. The unexpected closure left many staff members shocked, though further details have yet to be revealed.
The first teaser for the film was released on November 21, 2024.
