About Man vs. Bee TV Series
Man vs. Bee is a British comedy family television series created and written by Rowan Atkinson and William Davies. It consists of nine episodes, directed by David Kerr. It stars Rowan Atkinson, Jing Lusi, Claudie Blakley, Tom Basden, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Greg McHugh, and India Fowler.
The series’ soundtrack was composed by Lorne Balfe and released along with the series on 24 June 2022 in a 20-track soundtrack.
Atkinson described the process to make a story “roughly the length of a movie,” editing to 10 episodes. The editing process included making cliffhangers for the end of episodes that would not be needed for a movie. Atkinson says the series was inspired by a Mr. Bean segment from 1992. While Mr. Bean is considered a “much nicer and much sweeter and more normal person” with a “weak spot” of obsession, compared to Mr. Bean’s “self-centred, narcissistic anarchist”, Atkinson described his character as “different” to Mr. Bean. The first script meeting occurred just over three years prior, and filming a year before release. While promoting the series, Kerr left it an open issue in terms of a second season.
Filming took 12 weeks, with interior scenes at Bovingdon Studios, Hertfordshire, and exterior scenes around Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Because of COVID-19 concerns of homeowners, they could not film in a real house. Instead of giving up his favorite luxury, they were given branded products to illustrate “the couple’s luxury lifestyle,” even though they were not paid by brand owners for this demonstration.
Borrowed from its owner is “the oldest surviving Jaguar E-type”; Atkinson’s character destroys it during the show, but a replica was built for that. The Bee was either a physical model or computer-generated by Framestore, depending on whether the Bee was static.
Rowan Atkinson said he enjoyed the process of screenwriting, but hated the procedure of filming. He said it had a lot of stress due to Covid 19. One member of the crew got Covid and was isolated for two weeks by Atkinson.
Many have pointed out that this show’s concept is very similar to the concept of John Hughes’ unmade film “The Bee”.

Promotional activities for the series included a billboard in Manchester and a Beano comic strip by Nigel Parkinson.
