About Madharasi Movie

Madharasi is an upcoming Tamil action film written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss. The film stars Sivakarthikeyan, Rukmini Vasanth, Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, and Shabeer Kallarakkal, Vikranth.

In December 2020, director Murugadoss reportedly met with Sivakarthikeyan to discuss a possible collaboration. The speculation grew stronger in March 2023 when, at the audio launch of 16 August 1947 (2023), a film produced by Murugadoss, Sivakarthikeyan hinted at their upcoming project. Later that month, Murugadoss officially confirmed the collaboration.

The film is reportedly made on a budget of ₹200 crore, with Sivakarthikeyan and Murugadoss receiving ₹40 crore and ₹50 crore as their respective remuneration.

The film was officially announced on September 25, 2023, with the working titles SKxARM and SK23, marking the first collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and director Murugadoss, as well as Sivakarthikeyan’s 23rd film as a lead actor. The official title, Madharasi, was announced on 17 February 2025, coinciding with Sivakarthikeyan’s birthday.

This project marks the second collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and Murugadoss. While Sivakarthikeyan made his Tamil debut with Marina (2012), their first professional association was Maan Karate (2014), where Murugadoss served as the producer and co-writer.

Principal photography began with the first schedule on 14 February 2024 in Chennai. The film was shot in locations including Chennai and Pondicherry. Sreekar Prasad started the editing work for the film in June 2024. A one-minute snippet of the film’s background score produced by Anirudh was leaked on social media, during early August 2024

The film’s soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, marking his third collaboration with Murugadoss after Kaththi (2014) and Darbar (2020), and his eighth collaboration with Sivakarthikeyan. The audio rights have been acquired by Junglee Music.

Madharasi Release Date

Madharasi is set for a theatrical release in 2025. In addition to its original Tamil version, the film will also be released in Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, while the Hindi version will be titled Dil Madharasi. Initially planned for a Diwali release on October 31, 2024, the film was postponed due to production delays and the release of Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran (2024) on the same date.
