About Law & Order: Organized Crime TV Series
Law & Order: Organized Crime is an American political crime drama television series created by Dick Wolf, Ilene Chaiken and Matt Olmstead. It is the seventh installment in the Law & Order franchise and a spin-off of Law & Order and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
Like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, the series is filmed on location in New York. Production was initially set to begin in August 2020, but in September, it was the only Wolf Entertainment series without a confirmed start date. Filming eventually commenced on January 27, 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, with stars Christopher Meloni and Mariska Hargitay sharing behind-the-scenes photos. Despite two production halts due to positive COVID-19 cases, the series maintained its scheduled premiere date. Filming for the fifth season, which will air on Peacock, began in August 2024.
On the 19th of July 2022 Johnny Pizarro, a parking attendant was shot and killed while on set during the production of the third season premiere episode Gimme Shelter – Part One (2022). As a result, filming was temporarily suspended while the police investigated. According to reports, Pizarro had been smoking marijuana with a fellow crew member shortly before he was shot and killed. A GoFundMe was set up by Pizarro’s attorney for his estate to help support his wife and six children in the aftermath of his death.
This is the eighth different series in the Law & Order franchise. The franchise includes: Law & Order (1990), Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (2001), Law & Order: Trial by Jury (2005), Law & Order: UK (2009), Law & Order: LA (2010), and Law & Order True Crime (2017).
Christopher Meloni is the seventh actor who was a regular cast member on one Law & Order show to transfer as a regular cast member to a second in the franchise.
