About Keeping Faith TV Series

Keeping Faith (Welsh: Un Bore Mercher, meaning “One Wednesday Morning”) is a British thriller television series set and filmed in Wales. It first aired in Welsh on S4C on 5 November 2017.

Created by Matthew Hall and produced by Vox Pictures, the series follows Faith Howells, played by Eve Myles, a solicitor at a family-run law firm whose life is turned upside down when her husband, Evan, mysteriously disappears while she is on maternity leave after their third child’s birth.

The English-language version, Keeping Faith, premiered on BBC One Wales on 13 February 2018. The first season featured a strong supporting cast, including Hannah Daniel, Matthew Gravelle, Bradley Freegard, Mark Lewis Jones, Mali Harries, and Aneirin Hughes. The show quickly became a sensation in Wales, attracting an average of 300,000 viewers per episode—making it the most-watched BBC Wales show in over 25 years. By May 2018, it had also become the most downloaded non-network show on BBC iPlayer, with over 8.5 million downloads.

Filmed simultaneously in both English and Welsh, Keeping Faith was part of a lineup of bilingual dramas premiering on S4C. The Welsh-language broadcast initially featured fully English subtitles, while repeat airings included encoded subtitles. The series was also made available on BBC iPlayer as part of BBC’s collaboration with S4C.

On 15 June 2018, the BBC announced a UK-wide broadcast of Keeping Faith on BBC One, starting from 10 July 2018. BBC Wales’ Head of Commissioning, Nick Andrews, praised the series as “a real gem from start to finish” and highlighted its significance in Welsh drama.

Following the first season’s cliffhanger ending, BBC Wales’ arts and media correspondent, Huw Thomas, reported on 6 May 2018 that a second season was in development. Later that year, the second season was officially commissioned, with production beginning in September 2018. The Welsh-language version aired first on S4C from 12 May 2019 (with English subtitles), followed by the English-language broadcast on BBC One in July–August 2019.

The third and final season premiered in Welsh on S4C in November–December 2020, while the English-language version aired on BBC One starting 27 March 2021. It was simultaneously released on BBC iPlayer. By May 2021, Keeping Faith had amassed over 50 million views on BBC iPlayer.
