About Jigra Movie

Jigra is a Hindi action thriller film directed by Vasan Bala and starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina in the lead roles. The film is a co-production between Dharma Productions and Eternal Sunshine Productions.

It is inspired by Mahesh Bhatt’s Gumrah (1993) which had Alia Bhatt’s mother Soni Razdan playing one of the jail mates and friends of Sridevi.

The film was officially announced through an announcement video on September 26, 2023, with principal photography beginning in October 2024. It was primarily filmed in Mumbai, Thailand, and Singapore, wrapping up production in February 2024. These locations were selected to represent the fictional country of Hanshi Dao, which loosely resembles Singapore.

Netflix acquired the film’s streaming rights, with plans to release it following its theatrical run.

Jigra Movie Storyline

Satya and her brother Ankur, orphaned since childhood, were raised by their distant relatives, the Mehtanis. Years later, Satya becomes the backbone of the Mehtanis’ business, while her introverted brother, Ankur, forms a close bond with their son, Kabir, which Satya resents. Ankur, passionate about a music career, joins Kabir on a business trip to Hanshi Dao.

However, the trip takes a dark turn when Kabir is arrested for drug possession, and Ankur, though innocent, is also detained. Due to Hanshi Dao’s strict laws mandating the death penalty for drug offenses, no lawyer is willing to take up Ankur’s case. Determined to save him, Satya teams up with Bhatia, a former criminal, and Muthu, a former officer, to orchestrate his escape. Before she can inform Ankur, he and his fellow inmates devise their own plan to break free.

Jigra was released in theaters worldwide on October 11, 2024, aligning with the Vijayadashami festival. It received mixed reviews from critics and underperformed at the box office. The film was released alongside Vettaiyan and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
