In the Grey is an American action thriller directed and written by Guy Ritchie and produced by Black Bear Pictures. The film features a star-studded cast including Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González.

In May 2023, it was announced that Guy Ritchie would write and direct a new untitled action film, with Black Bear International managing its international sales at the Cannes Film Market. The project reunited Ritchie with Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Eiza González, who had previously worked with him. Ivan Atkinson and John Friedberg, long-time collaborators of Ritchie, joined the production team as producers. Later, in October 2023, Carlos Bardem and Fisher Stevens were confirmed to join the cast.

The film’s production was granted an interim agreement, allowing actors to continue working during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Principal photography commenced in September 2023 in Tenerife, Canary Islands, and wrapped in late October 2023. Initial filming took place at the Real Casino de Tenerife in Plaza de la Candelaria, before moving to San Andrés, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where scenes were shot at the fishing dock and Las Teresitas beach, including thrilling chase sequences through the village.

This marks the second collaboration between Guy Ritchie and both Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, following their previous work together on The Covenant (2023) and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024). For Henry Cavill, this will be their third partnership, after previously teaming up on The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024).

In the Grey Movie Release Date

In October 2023, Lionsgate secured the U.S. distribution rights for the film. Although it was initially slated for release in the United States on January 17, 2025, Lionsgate removed the film from its release schedule in November 2024, as post-production was not completed in time for the original date.

Black Bear International managed international sales for the film, handling distribution in the United Kingdom and Ireland directly, while Elevation Pictures took on distribution in Canada.
