Guru Nanak Jahaz is an upcoming Punjabi historical drama movie that explores the Komagata Maru incident in 1914, highlighting the challenges faced by Indian immigrants during that period.. The film stars Tarsem Jassar as Mewa Singh Lopoke and Gurpreet Ghuggi as Baba Gurdit Singh Ji.
The Komagata Maru incident took place in 1914 when a Japanese steamship carrying 376 Indian immigrants attempted to reach Canada. However, due to racially restrictive immigration laws, most passengers were denied entry. The ship’s arrival in Vancouver triggered a strong anti-Asian backlash, and the passengers were eventually forced to return to India. Upon their return, a confrontation with British authorities led to a violent clash, resulting in 22 deaths.
Produced under the banner of Vehli Janta Films, it was directed by Sharan Art who also co-created the story of the movie along with Harnav Bir Singh. Music direction is taken by Kevin Roy George, Jaype Singh handles cinematography, while Baljinder S. Rajowal worked on editing.
