  • Gaslit is a political thriller based on the first season of the Slate podcast Slow Burn.
  • The series was announced in February 2020, with Sam Esmail attached to executive produce.
  • Julia Roberts, Sean Penn, Armie Hammer, and Joel Edgerton were initially cast, with Edgerton set to direct alongside his brother Nash Edgerton.
  • Armie Hammer exited the series in January 2021 due to scheduling conflicts.
  • In February 2021, the series was picked up by Starz, and both Edgerton brothers exited. Matt Ross joined as the new director.
  • Dan Stevens was cast to replace Hammer in April 2021.
  • Betty Gilpin, Darby Camp, and Shea Whigham joined the cast in May 2021, with Whigham replacing Edgerton.
  • Filming began in May 2021 in Los Angeles, California.
  • In July 2021, Allison Tolman, J.C. Mackenzie, Chris Bauer, Chris Messina, and Hamish Linklater joined the cast in recurring roles.

Martha Mitchell struggles to balance the demands of a re-election campaign and her marriage. John Dean’s ambition as White House Counsel is tested when he’s unknowingly drawn into a re-election campaign conspiracy for Richard Nixon.

Season 1, Episode 2: California (May 1, 2022)

Martha and John rekindle their love—and their power-couple working relationship at a campaign event in California, overshadowed by G. Gordon Liddy and his team bungling the break-in at the Watergate.

Season 1, Episode 3: King George (May 8, 2022)

As John Mitchell and his subordinates struggle to manage the Watergate cover-up, Martha finds herself in a dangerous situation; John Dean puts his relationship on the back-burner.

Season 1, Episode 4: Malum in se (May 15, 2022)

Martha and John try to enjoy their new life away from politics, but Martha has trouble moving on from what happened in California. At the Republican National Convention, John Dean has a hard time moving on from his breakup.
