About Future Nostalgia Album
Future Nostalgia is the second studio album by English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa, released on March 27, 2020, by Warner Records. The album was crafted with contributions from Jeff Bhasker, Ian Kirkpatrick, Stuart Price, the Monsters & Strangerz, and Koz, blending nostalgic pop and disco with dance-pop and electronic influences. Lipa drew inspiration from the music of her childhood to shape the album’s sound.
The album was preceded by six singles, with “Don’t Start Now” serving as the lead. The song was a critical and commercial success, peaking at number two on both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100. Other notable singles included the UK top-ten hits “Physical” and “Break My Heart,” as well as a remix of “Levitating” featuring DaBaby, which became a global success, reaching the top five in the UK and the top two in the US. “Levitating” later topped the year-end Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2021. The album was originally slated for release on April 3, 2020, but was pushed forward after it leaked two weeks early. To support the album, Lipa embarked on the Future Nostalgia Tour, which began in February 2022 after multiple delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Future Nostalgia received universal acclaim from critics, who praised its production, cohesion, and Lipa’s artistic evolution. The day after its release, Billboard noted that Lipa was “leading the charge toward disco-influenced production.” Commercially, the album topped the charts in 15 countries and reached the top ten in 31. In the UK, it spent four non-consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Albums Chart, marking Lipa’s first album to achieve this feat. It also earned her a Mercury Prize nomination and won the Brit Award for British Album of the Year. At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, the album was nominated for Album of the Year and won Best Pop Vocal Album, while “Don’t Start Now” received nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Solo Performance.
Following the album’s success, Future Nostalgia was reimagined with a remix album, Club Future Nostalgia, released on August 28, 2020, to positive reviews. A French edition followed on November 27, 2020, featuring the French number-one single “Fever.” Additionally, a reissue, The Moonlight Edition, was released on February 11, 2021, alongside its lead single, “We’re Good.”
