Bugonia Movie Storyline
Two conspiracy-obsessed young men kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
About Bugonia Movie
Bugonia is an English-language remake of the 2003 South Korean film Save the Green Planet! directed by Jang Joon-hwan. Development for the remake began in 2020, with Will Tracy adapting the screenplay and Jang returning to direct. In February 2024, it was announced that Yorgos Lanthimos would be directing the remake, replacing Jang Joon-hwan.
Yorgos Lanthimos collaborated with writer Will Tracy to refine the script, adding his own creative touch. Emma Stone stars in the lead role of the film, while Jesse Plemons officially joined the cast when the project was retitled Bugonia and presented at the Cannes Film Market in May. In October, Alicia Silverstone also joined the cast.
This is Emma Stone’s fifth collaboration with director Yorgos Lanthimos, following The Favourite (2018), Bleat (2022), Poor Things (2023), and Kinds of Kindness (2024).
Principal photography began in July 2024 in High Wycombe, England.
Focus Features acquired worldwide rights to the film, except for South Korea, where CJ ENM retained distribution. The deal was made at the Marché du Film in May 2024, with Universal Pictures handling international distribution on behalf of Focus Features.
Bugonia Movie Release Date
Bugonia is scheduled to be released in the United States and Canada on November 7, 2025.
