Who is Subani Moktan?

Subani Moktan is a Nepali singer, songwriter, music composer, RJ, and VJ. Besides her own independent music, she also works as a playback singer for movies. She also plays the guitar and piano and collaborates with several bands.

Subani is the daughter of famous veteran Nepali singers, Sila Bahadur Moktan and Kunti Moktan. Moktan, who rose to fame along with her sister, Shital Moktan at a very young age. “Timi Bina Ko Jeeban Kada Bho”, “Gham Pani”, “Mero Maya”, “Geet Mero Nepal Ho”, “Kati Risauchau” are still Subani favorite songs.

Early Life & Education

Subani Moktan was born on 31 December in Kathmandu, Nepal, as the youngest daughter of veteran Nepali singers Shila Bahadur Moktan and Kunti Moktan. She has an older sister, Shital Moktan, and comes from a family with a rich musical heritage, which influenced her own passion for music.

Subani completed her schooling at a local school and later graduated with an MBA from ACE Institute Management College. Growing up in a musical family was a privilege she is deeply grateful for, and it made it easier for her to pursue a career in music. Her family always supported her choices, never pushing her into anything she didn’t want to do, and it was her own decision to follow a career in music.

Her musical journey began at a very young age. She started learning the piano at just six years old, and by the time she was in first grade, she participated in the All Nepal Solo Singing Competition organized by Bal Mandir, where she won first place at the age of seven.

Career

Subani Moktan grew up in a musical environment, with all her family members involved in the music industry. This exposure allowed her to learn music and sing from a very early age. She received training in classical music and took piano lessons with a Japanese teacher, who introduced her to new genres with each lesson. Subani also learned the guitar from Phiroj Syandgen of 1974 AD.

At the age of 14, she began playing the guitar and started collaborating with artists such as Nirnaya da NSK and Khem Gurung.

Subani has sung many popular songs, including Timi Bina Ko Jeeban Kada Bho, Gham Pani, Mero Maya, Geet Mero Nepal Ho, Kati Risauchau, Thaha Cha, and Maya Ho Ki Maya Jastai.

At 16, she won the Hits FM Music Award for Best New Artist. Following the release of her second album, Subani received the HITS FM Music Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance Female.

In addition to her solo work, she has also contributed as a playback singer for movies like Jaba Pugchhu Riverside (Prem Geet) and Nasha Ho Kollywood Ko (Kollywood), among others. Subani is also the voice behind Ncell’s call notifications, so when a call doesn’t go through, it’s her voice you hear.
