Who is Amrit Gurung?
Amrit Gurung (Nepali: अमृत गुरुङ) is a multifaceted Nepalese figure known as a singer, lyricist, composer, musician, photographer, filmmaker, and traveler. He is best known as the founder, leader, and lead vocalist of the folk-rock band Nepathya.
Apart from Nepathya, Amrit heads the music wing under Nepa~laya and is also involved in doing research on folk music in Nepal for which he travels extensively through the country.

Early Life & Education
Amrit Gurung was born in 1968 and raised in Mulpani, a small village near Pokhara. He claims his iconic glasses were given to him by one of his aunts, who was a follower of Mahatma Gandhi.
Gurung’s early life involved painting and photography to earn a living. He is a compulsive traveler and has trekked across 70 of Nepal’s 75 districts, collecting folk lyrics and music. Although he had no formal music training, his passion led him to create Nepathya.
Career
Music career and Nepathya

In the early 1990s, along with Deepak Rana and Bhim Poon, Gurung formed Nepathya while studying in Kathmandu, Nepal. Since its creation, the band has seen many members come and go, but Gurung has remained the only constant.
Amrit has been part of Nepathya in all the shows in Nepal and abroad which includes the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Belgium, Holland, Finland, Germany, Denmark, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, UAE, Qatar, Israel, and India. Nepathya was the first Nepali band to perform at Wembley Arena in the UK.
Nepathya has released over 10 albums, including well-known songs like Chhekyo Chhekyo, Jomsome Bazaarma, Resham, and Bhedako Oon Jasto. Their 7th album, Ghatana, released during a time of conflict in Nepal, expressed the experiences of the Nepali people through music.
