Asteroid City Movie Storyline

About Asteroid City Movie
The film’s title was revealed by Bill Murray to be Asteroid City at the BFI London Film Festival in October 2021. Principal photography, originally set for Rome, took place in Spain between August and October 2021, with COVID-19 safety precautions in place.
Alexandre Desplat composed the film’s score in his sixth collaboration with Anderson.
The cast includes four Oscar winners: Adrien Brody, Tom Hanks, Fisher Stevens, Tilda Swinton, and ten Oscar nominees: Bob Balaban, Steve Carell, Hong Chau, Bryan Cranston, Willem Dafoe, Matt Dillon, Jeff Goldblum, Scarlett Johansson, Edward Norton, and Margot Robbie.
Bill Murray was originally cast in Steve Carell’s role, but contracted COVID-19 shortly before filming. He had to withdraw from production.
In May 2023, Wes Anderson talked about how the COVID-19 pandemic inspired the film and its story, saying “I don’t think there would be a quarantine in the story if we weren’t experiencing it. It wasn’t deliberate … Writing is the most improvisational part of the whole process. It relies on having nothing.”
Bryan Cranston said the filming of this movie was very familial where the actors would have nightly banquets. He referred to it as “fulfilling an actor’s dream camp” and said filming this movie was not easy but was a great experience.
Michael Cera was originally cast but had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. It hasn’t been disclosed which role Cera was set to play.
The film was initially given an R-rating by the Motion Picture Association “for brief graphic nudity.” The decision was appealed and the film was re-rated PG-13 “for brief graphic nudity, smoking, and some suggestive material.”
Asteroid City made $3.8 million on its first day of wide release, including $1.1 million from Thursday night previews. The film grossed $28.2 million in the United States and Canada, and $25.8 million in other territories, for a worldwide gross of $54 million.
In June 2023, while promoting this film, Wes Anderson also spoke about his next project, The Phoenician Scheme, confirming that the script was completed before the 2023 WGA strike began.
