Storyline
Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias (Andrew Garfield) are brought together in a surprise encounter that changes their lives. Through snapshots of their life together — falling for each other, building a home, becoming a family — a difficult truth is revealed that rocks its foundation. As they embark on a path challenged by the limits of time, they learn to cherish each moment of the unconventional route their love story has taken, in filmmaker John Crowley’s decade-spanning, deeply moving romance.
About We Live in Time Movie
We Live in Time is a romantic drama film directed by John Crowley and written by Nick Payne. It stars Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh in the tutor character.
Nick Payne developed the screenplay for We Live in Time in collaboration with StudioCanal. The film was executive produced by Benedict Cumberbatch through his London-based production company, SunnyMarch. Additional producers include Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland from SunnyMarch, Guy Heeley from Shoebox Films, along with Ron Halpern and Joe Naftalin from StudioCanal.
In March 2023, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh entered talks to star in the film, which was confirmed shortly after the duo presented an award together at the 95th Academy Awards. Principal photography for We Live in Time began in April 2023 in London, with cast and crew reported to be filming in Herne Hill. Later that month, they were also seen shooting at a Co-op in Blackfen.
We Live in Time Release Date
In May 2023, A24 secured the U.S. distribution rights for the film. StudioCanal took charge of worldwide sales and will handle direct distribution in several countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Germany, Poland, the Benelux, Australia, and New Zealand. A first-look image from the film, featuring the lead characters sharing a “cute scene,” became a viral internet meme, largely due to the inclusion of an “ugly carousel horse” in the frame.
We Live in Time made its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2024. It was then selected to close the official selection of the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it was shown out of competition. A24 has scheduled a limited theatrical release in the United States for October 11, 2024, followed by a wide release on October 18, 2024. The film will be released theatrically in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France on January 1, 2025, and in Spain by Beta Fiction on January 3, 2025.
