Storyline
Jasmeet Bhamra is a British-Indian detective who loses her child to murder and moves to another town where she’s tasked with investigating the disappearance of a missing child. She explores themes of trauma, grief, the immigrant experience, and our need for closure.
About The Buckingham Murders Movie
The Buckingham Murders is a crime thriller film directed by Hansal Mehta and a story written by Aseem Arrora. The film stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, who also co-produces, marking her first production venture. The other cast includes Keith Allen, Ranveer Brar, Prabhleen Sandhu, Sanjeev Mehra, and Ash Tandon. Most of the actors are from the UK.
Kareena Kapoor said that her role in the film was inspired by Kate Winslet’s character in the miniseries Mare of Easttown.
The Buckingham Murders premiered at the 67th BFI London Film Festival on 14 October 2023 and opened the 2023 Mumbai Film Festival at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre on 27 October. The film was theatrically released on 13 September 2024 and will also be available on Netflix at a later date.
The film is bilingual, with 80% of the dialogue in English and the rest in Hindi.
Kareena Kapoor received widespread praise for her performance in the film, but it had a poor opening at the box office, marking the lowest of her career to date.
Director Hansal Mehta revealed that The Buckingham Murders is intended to be the first part of a planned franchise.
