Chhaava is a Hindi historical action film based on the life of Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire, portrayed by Vicky Kaushal. Adapted from the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, the film is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. The cast also features Rashmika Mandanna and Akshaye Khanna.
Pre-production began in April 2023, with filming starting in October 2023 and concluding in May 2024. The film’s score and soundtrack are composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Kshitij Patwardhan.
Chhaava was released in theatres on 14 February 2025 in both standard and IMAX formats. The film received mixed reviews, with some controversy surrounding alleged historical inaccuracies.

Chhaava Box Office Collection
Chhaava had a strong opening, particularly in Maharashtra, grossing ₹33.10 crore (US$3.8 million) on its first day in India. The film collected ₹157 crore (US$18 million) worldwide during its opening weekend, surpassing director Laxman Utekar’s previous highest-grossing film, Luka Chuppi (₹128.6 crore or US$15 million).
On 19 February 2025, Chhaava earned ₹33 crore (US$3.8 million), becoming the ninth fastest Hindi film to enter the ₹200 crore club and setting a record for the highest collection on a first Wednesday. By the end of its first week, the film had crossed ₹225 crore (US$26 million) in India. On its second Saturday, it added ₹44.10 crore (US$5.0 million) to its total.
In its second weekend, Chhaava entered the ₹300 crore club and crossed ₹400 crore (US$46 million) globally. On 1 March 2025, it achieved ₹400 crore in the domestic market. The film also became the highest-grossing film in Maharashtra, surpassing Pushpa 2: The Rule (₹250 crore or US$29 million).

Chhaava Screens
Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava has been released on over 4,000 screens across India, with its Telugu version debuting on more than 550 screens in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Following the successful run of its Hindi version, the film has garnered significant attention and box office success. In Telugu, it is distributed by Geetha Arts Distributors.

- India (Nett): Chhaava has crossed the ₹500 crore mark in India. On its 23rd day, the film’s nett collection was reported at ₹540.38 crore.
- India (Gross): The gross collection in India is estimated to be around ₹637.99 crore (US$73 million).
- Overseas Gross: The overseas gross collection is about ₹88.84 crore.
- Worldwide Gross: The film has achieved a worldwide gross collection of approximately ₹726.83 crore (US$83 million).
Chhaava is on track to surpass Gadar 2‘s lifetime collection of ₹525 crore and may also challenge Animal‘s record of around ₹550 crore if it maintains its current pace.
