Early Life & Education

Triptii Dimri was born on 23 February 1994 in Garhwal, Uttarakhand. She was raised in a Hindu family by her parents, Meenakshi and Dinesh Dimri, who have been supportive of her career. She has a brother, Ashutosh Dimri, and a sister, Kritika Dimri Papne.
She completed her schooling at Delhi Public School, Firozabad, before earning a degree in psychology from Sri Aurobindo College. Passionate about acting, she later trained at the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, to refine her skills.
Career
After a brief appearance as an extra in Mom (2017), Triptii Dimri landed her first lead role in Poster Boys, the directorial debut of Shreyas Talpade. Starring alongside Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and Talpade, she played the latter’s love interest in this comedy, a remake of the Marathi film Poshter Boyz. While a critic from Bollywood Hungama noted that her performance was overshadowed by the ensemble cast, she was still considered “decent” in her role.
Dimri’s next major role came in the romantic drama Laila Majnu (2018), where she starred opposite Avinash Tiwary. Though the film initially struggled at the box office, it later gained cult status after its digital release. Anna M. M. Vetticad of Firstpost praised Dimri’s portrayal of Laila, noting that she brought a believable intensity to the character’s fearless nature. Despite the film’s later acclaim, Dimri admitted to facing difficulties coping with its commercial failure.
After a brief hiatus, she achieved a breakthrough in 2020 with Anvita Dutt’s supernatural drama Bulbbul, reuniting with Tiwary. Produced by Anushka Sharma, the film received widespread praise, with The Hindu’s Namrata Joshi highlighting Dimri’s ability to transition from innocence to mystery, describing her performance as captivating. Her role earned her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Actor (Female) in a Web Original Film.
Dimri continued her collaboration with Dutt in Qala (2022), where she played the title role of an aspiring playback singer navigating personal and professional challenges. The film received critical acclaim, with Dimri’s performance earning praise for its depth. While Hindustan Times’ Sanatanu Das commended her acting, he also noted that her character remained emotionally restrained throughout the film. Dimri later revealed that she took on Qala to push her boundaries and explore new genres.
Dimri had a brief but notable role in the blockbuster action drama Animal (2023), starring Ranbir Kapoor. Despite her limited screen time, Monika Rawal Kukreja of Hindustan Times praised her presence, and the film significantly boosted her recognition. Her performance earned her a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Dimri credited Animal for opening doors to a wider range of roles.
In 2024, she appeared in three films. She starred alongside Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk in the comedy Bad Newz, centered around heteropaternal superfecundation. Adjusting to the comedy genre proved challenging for her, as she was more accustomed to dramatic roles. While NDTV’s Saibal Chatterjee felt she struggled with her character, Film Companion’s Rahul Desai found her role lacking depth compared to her previous work in Bulbbul and Qala.
In Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, she played a newlywed in 1997 searching for a missing sex tape alongside Rajkummar Rao. Her performance received mixed reactions, with some criticism aimed at her dance skills in the song Mere Mehboob, which sparked social media trolling. She acknowledged the experience as a learning opportunity. The Quint’s Pratikshya Mishra praised her chemistry with Rao despite the film’s weak writing, while India Today’s Bhavna Agarwal critiqued her comic timing in both Bad Newz and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.
The following month, she starred in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 alongside Kartik Aaryan, Vidya Balan, and Madhuri Dixit. While the film became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2024, critics from The Hindu and Rediff.com described her role as largely ornamental. Despite this, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 earned ₹4.17 billion (US$48 million) worldwide, further cementing her presence in mainstream cinema.
With her back-to-back film appearances, Saibal Chatterjee noted that Dimri risks overexposure. She will next star opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi in Dhadak 2, a remake of the Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, followed by Arjun Ustara, an action thriller directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, where she will feature alongside Shahid Kapoor.
In the media
Dimri was featured by Forbes Asia in their 30 Under 30 list of 2021. She ranked 8th in Rediff.com’s list of Bollywood Best Actresses of 2020. She ranked 20th in The Times of India‘s 50 Most Desirable Women List of 2020.
Personal Life
Triptii Dimri was rumored to be in a relationship with Karnesh Sharma, film producer and brother of actress Anushka Sharma. Though they never publicly confirmed their relationship, they were frequently seen together and interacted on social media. Karnesh collaborated with Dimri on projects like Bulbbul and Qala.
Currently, Dimri is speculated to be dating former model and businessman Sam Merchant. The rumors surfaced after a selfie of the two at a wedding event circulated online. Merchant, known for his beach clubs and hotels in Goa, has a notable social media presence.
Dimri prefers to keep her personal life private. When asked about marriage, she shared that she hasn’t actively thought about it. As for her ideal partner, she simply hopes for someone who is a genuinely kind person.
