Sanjeev Baraili discovered his passion for music at the age of 10 when his elder brother began learning guitar. Despite not having a guitar at home, his brother introduced him to the instrument, explaining its mechanics and how it produces music. This early exposure ignited Sanjeev’s deep fascination with guitar playing.

After completing his SLC (10th grade) exams, he moved to Kathmandu for further studies. While searching for opportunities, he came across a job vacancy for a guitarist at a hotel. However, when invited for an audition, he faced a challenge—he didn’t own a guitar. Determined to pursue his dream, he found a street singer and managed to buy his guitar for Rs. 700. Though not the best-looking instrument, it served its purpose and helped him secure the job.

At the hotel, the band primarily played ghazals by legendary artists like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Kishore Kumar, Ghulam Ali, and Manna Dey. Initially unfamiliar with this style, as he had only played rock songs with his Jhapa-based band, Peace, he adapted and spent the next eight years mastering his craft. During this time, he also learned guitar from renowned musician Gopal Rasaili.

Today, Baraili is one of Nepal’s most prolific guitarists, known for crafting the signature riffs behind hits like Kutu Ma Kutu, the revamped version of Phul Butte Sari, Gojima Daam Chhaina, and many more. His contributions span over a thousand recorded songs and numerous live concerts, including a remarkable performance at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in the UK.

Apart from being a guitarist and music coordinator for Kripa Unplugged, a popular musical TV series, he has also ventured into singing his own compositions. Baraili released his original song Baaf, marking another milestone in his diverse musical journey.
