Early Life & Education
Eiza González was born on January 30, 1990, in Caborca, Sonora, Mexico. She is the only daughter of former model Glenda Reyna and Carlos González. Her father passed away in a motorcycle accident when she was 12, an event she has described as a major influence on her career. She has an older brother, who is 12 years her senior.
González received her early education at two private bilingual institutions in Mexico City, Edron Academy and the American School Foundation. Around the age of 10, she spent some time in Trento, Italy, where she stayed with relatives and learned Italian.
Her formal acting training began in 2003 at M&M Studio, an acting school in Mexico City led by actress Patricia Reyes Spíndola. She later enrolled at Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística, where she completed two years of a three-year program. At just 16, she landed the lead role in the 2007 teen telenovela Lola…Érase una vez, marking the beginning of her acting career.
Career
While attending school, Eiza González was discovered by producer Pedro Damián, known for his work with the Latin pop band RBD. Two years later, he cast her as the lead in Lola, érase una vez, a remake of Argentina’s popular children’s telenovela Floricienta. The show premiered in Mexico in February 2007 and later aired across Latin America and the U.S. After its completion, González briefly moved to New York in 2008 to attend acting classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute before returning to Mexico City.
In 2009, she appeared in an episode of the crime drama Mujeres Asesinas before landing the lead role in Nickelodeon’s teen sitcom Sueña conmigo (2010–2011), where she played both Clara Molina and her pop star alter ego, Roxy Pop. The show’s success led to a series of concerts in Argentina.
González made her film debut in Casi 30 (2014), playing an 18-year-old ballet student. She also starred in the Televisa drama Amores verdaderos (2012), declining a lead role in Gossip Girl: Acapulco due to scheduling conflicts. In 2013, she moved to Los Angeles and was initially cast in All Hail the Squash Blossom Queen, though she was later replaced.
Her breakthrough in Hollywood came in 2014 when she was cast as Santanico Pandemonium in Robert Rodriguez’s TV series From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, marking her first English-speaking role. She later hosted the MTV Millennial Awards in 2014 and continued working on the show’s second season in 2015.
Since 2015, González has built a strong Hollywood career with roles in major films, including Baby Driver (2017), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), Hobbs & Shaw (2019), I Care a Lot (2020), Bloodshot (2020), Godzilla vs. Kong (2021), and Ambulance (2022). In 2023, she appeared in Apple TV+’s Extrapolations and was cast in Netflix’s 3 Body Problem. In 2024, she starred in Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
Personal Life
Gonzalez speaks Italian fluently and some French. In September 2015, she revealed that she struggled with depression and compulsive overeating from age 15 to age 20 as a result of her father’s death. On January 8, 2025, Gonzalez reported the ongoing California wildfires had destroyed her home.
