About BE Album
Be is the fifth Korean-language and ninth overall studio album by South Korean boy band BTS, released on November 20, 2020, through Big Hit Entertainment, following Map of the Soul: 7 (2020). Created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the album reflects BTS’s perspective on life during this period, with the members actively involved in songwriting, production, and visual design.
Primarily a pop record, Be incorporates hip hop, EDM, and disco, along with synth-pop, funk, and R&B elements. Described as “a letter of hope,” its lyrics explore themes of comfort, loneliness, anxiety, hope, and joy. The album was preceded by the standalone single “Dynamite,” BTS’s first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100, and followed by its lead single, “Life Goes On,” which also debuted atop the chart, marking their third consecutive US number-one hit.
Be debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making BTS the fastest group since The Beatles to achieve five US chart-topping albums. It also reached number one in multiple countries, including Canada, Japan, Denmark, and South Korea, and was certified triple million by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA) and platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). BTS promoted the album with performances at the American Music Awards and appearances on The Late Late Show with James Corden and other television programs.
