Storyline
Bell Bottom is inspired from real life hijacking events in India by Khalistani terrorists during the 1980s, such as the Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405 and 421 hijackings.
About Bell Bottom Movie
Bell Bottom is a Hindi action thriller directed by Ranjit M. Tewari and written by Aseem Arrora and Parveez Sheikh. Produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani, Deepshikha Deshmukh, and Nikkhil Advani under Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment, the film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role, with Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta, and Huma Qureshi in extended cameos.
Inspired by real-life hijackings in India during the 1980s, including Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405, and 421, the film highlights unsung heroes of that era. Announced in November 2019, Bell Bottom became the first Bollywood film to resume shooting after the COVID-19 pandemic, completing its principal photography in Glasgow and London between August and September 2020.
Originally slated for a January 2021 release, the film faced multiple delays due to the pandemic before finally hitting theaters on 19 August 2021 in 3D. It premiered on Amazon Prime Video on 16 September and later released in Maharashtra theaters on 22 October 2021.
Despite its success, Bell Bottom was banned in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar due to historical inaccuracies, as it depicted Indian intelligence leading the hijack rescue mission, while in reality, UAE authorities played a significant role.
