Early Life & Education

Jeewan Gurung was born in 1984 in Pokhara, Nepal, a city known for its natural beauty. From a young age, he displayed a deep passion for music and possessed a remarkable voice. However, unlike many artists, he did not come from a musical background.
Starting his journey in music was not easy. As a young aspiring artist with limited knowledge, he faced numerous challenges. The lack of musical instruments and resources made it even more difficult, but Jeewan never let obstacles deter him. He embraced the struggle, worked tirelessly, and remained focused on his dreams.
Despite the hardships, his parents stood by him, supporting his aspirations. A turning point in his life came when his father gifted him a Walkman and a cassette tape—small but powerful tokens that fueled his passion even further. These gifts became his source of inspiration, helping him refine his musical abilities. Reflecting on his journey, Jeewan often says, “My father is my greatest inspiration.”
Career
From a young age, Jeewan Gurung was deeply fascinated by music, drawn to both listening and singing. His passion led to an unexpected break when, at just 16, his brother invited him to join a band. Though he had little musical knowledge, his captivating voice quickly made an impression. With his family’s unwavering support, Jeewan soon became the band’s lead vocalist. His parents not only encouraged his dreams but also helped cover expenses, even providing meals for the band. Reflecting on their support, Jeewan once shared in an interview how his parents’ generosity played a crucial role in his journey.
In 2000, Jeewan and his band (The Edge Band) released their debut album, featuring the hit single Mero Aasu, which resonated deeply with Nepali music lovers and became a turning point in his career. However, challenges arose when some original members left due to personal reasons. Undeterred, Jeewan rebuilt the band, demonstrating his commitment to his musical dreams.
The band’s second album, Vibes with Bajra, arrived in 2006, featuring popular tracks like Thaha Chaina, Kasailai Pani Ma, and Jiuna Lai Garo Bho. Over the years, they expanded their discography with songs such as Samjhine Mutu, Yo Dil Mero, and Nachaheko Hoina Timilai, further solidifying their place in Nepali pop music.
Jeewan’s journey is a testament to perseverance and passion. He believes that age is never a barrier to success and emphasizes the importance of consistent practice and self-belief. His dedication has led him to perform at numerous live shows worldwide, including in the UK, USA, Hong Kong, and Dubai, bringing Nepali music to an international audience.
