About Daaku Maharaaj Movie:
After the release of Waltair Veerayya (2023), starring Chiranjeevi, director Bobby Kolli was initially reported to be collaborating with Rajinikanth for a potential film that would mark Bobby’s Tamil cinema debut under Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations. However, Rajinikanth declined the project, expressing reservations about the script. Bobby then pitched the same story to Nandamuri Balakrishna, who showed interest and agreed to join the project.
The film, tentatively titled NBK109, signifying Balakrishna’s 109th outing as a lead actor, was officially announced on his birthday, 10 June 2023. Produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments, Srikara Studios, and Fortune Four Cinemas, the project was launched with a traditional pooja ceremony on the same day.
In November 2023, Bobby Deol was rumored to play the antagonist, a role confirmed on 27 January 2024, coinciding with his birthday. Although Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 was his first Telugu signing, NBK109 marked his Telugu cinema debut. In December 2023, Urvashi Rautela joined the cast as a female lead, while Kannada actor Rishi, known for Shaitan (2023), was cast as the secondary antagonist. The film’s title, Daaku Maharaj, was officially revealed with a teaser trailer on 15 November 2024.
Principal photography began on 7 November 2023 at Ramoji Film City and Sarathi Studios in Hyderabad. A planned schedule in Ooty during December was cut short due to adverse weather. By February 2024, nearly half the shoot was completed after a four-month schedule. The production was temporarily delayed due to the 2024 Indian general elections but resumed in June.
During a major production phase in Jaipur, Urvashi Rautela sustained a severe injury while filming an action sequence in July 2024. Balakrishna and Bobby Deol completed their portions by August. Filming wrapped in December 2024.
The first glimpse of the film debuted on 8 March 2024, during Maha Shivaratri, followed by a second glimpse on Balakrishna’s birthday, 10 June 2024. The title teaser premiered at Shilpakala Vedika in Hyderabad on 15 November 2024. The trailer was launched at a pre-release event in Dallas, Texas, on 4 January 2025, at 9:09 p.m. CST and was released in India on 5 January 2025, at 8:39 a.m. IST.
