Storyline
During the 1970s, Tiger Nageswara Rao is a thief who dominates the realm of terror in Stuartpuram and masterminds a series of daring heists, where his ingenious methods of outwitting the cops become the stuff of local legend. The rest of the story revolves around Tiger’s thrilling escapades and the captivating cat-and-mouse game between him and the cops (led by CI Mouli).
About Tiger Nageswara Rao Movie
Tiger Nageswara Rao is a Telugu period action thriller film written and directed by Vamsee and produced by Abhishek Agarwal under Abhishek Agarwal Arts. The film features Ravi Teja in the titular role, alongside Anupam Kher, Jisshu Sengupta, Nupur Sanon (in her film debut), Renu Desai (making her comeback), Gayatri Bhardwaj, and Murali Sharma.
The project was initially conceived in December 2017, when Vamsee expressed his desire to make a biographical film on Tiger Nageswara Rao, a notorious thief from the 1970s. Over the years, various actors, including Rana Daggubati and Nani, were speculated to portray the lead role. However, in April 2021, Vamsee met Ravi Teja and narrated the script, which ultimately led to the actor’s involvement.
The film was officially announced on 3 November 2021, confirming its biographical nature, with G. V. Prakash Kumar composing the score and R. Madhi and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao handling cinematography and editing, respectively.
Principal photography commenced in 2022 on a five-acre set near Shamshabad, Telangana, before moving to Hyderabad. During filming, Ravi Teja sustained an injury while performing an action sequence but resumed shooting after recovery. Nupur Sanon and Anupam Kher joined the shoot later that year, and production concluded in July 2023.
The film was released theatrically on 20 October 2023, along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam, receiving mixed reviews from critics.
Amazon Prime Video acquired the film’s digital rights across all languages, premiering it on 17 November 2023 in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada. The Hindi version, trimmed to 144 minutes, was later released on YouTube, where it garnered significant viewership.
