About Teasing Master Takagi-san Movie

Teasing Master Takagi-san Movie (Japanese: 映画 からかい上手の高木さん, Hepburn: Eiga Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san) is a Japanese film based on Sōichirō Yamamoto’s manga series Teasing Master Takagi-san and serves as a sequel to the live-action television adaptation. The film is directed by Rikiya Imaizumi from an original story he co-wrote with Tomoki Kanazawa and Jun Hagimori. It stars Mei Nagano, Fumiya Takahashi, Jin Suzuki, Yuna Taira, Oshirō Maeda, Sara Shida, Tamaki Shiratori, Jun Saito, and Yōsuke Eguchi. Produced by Fine Entertainment and distributed by Toho, the film takes place ten years after the events of the manga.

Shogakukan first announced a live-action adaptation of Teasing Master Takagi-san in March 2023, with Rikiya Imaizumi attached as director, though the format was unspecified at the time. In September 2023, it was confirmed as a television series. However, in November 2023, a live-action film was also announced, with Toho handling distribution. Mei Nagano and Fumiya Takahashi were cast as Takagi and Nishikata, respectively, while Imaizumi, Kanazawa, and Hagimori were confirmed as writers.

Principal photography took place on Shōdoshima in Kagawa Prefecture, the primary setting of the manga’s anime adaptation. Additional cast members were revealed in February 2024, including Yōsuke Eguchi as Mr. Tanabe, Jin Suzuki as Nakai, Yuna Taira as Mano, Oshirō Maeda as Hamaguchi, and Sara Shida as Hojo. Eguchi was the only cast member from the television series to reprise his role, serving as a connection between the two adaptations. In March 2024, Tamaki Shiratori and Jun Saito joined the cast as Miki Ozeki and Ryo Machida.

Promotional material began rolling out in January 2024, including a teaser poster and TV spot featuring narration by Yuki Kaji, Nishikata’s Japanese voice actor. A new poster and trailer with the theme song were released in March. In May 2024, Shinya Takagi of the comedy duo Joyman collaborated with the film, releasing a light-hearted rap music video on their official YouTube channel.

Teasing Master Takagi-san Movie had an early screening in Tokyo on May 16, 2024, before its official release in Japan on May 31. The film was later screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival in June 2024 and had its North American premiere at the 28th Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, Canada, on July 28.

The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD and became available for streaming on U-Next in Japan on November 13, 2024.
