About Silo TV Series

Silo is an American science fiction dystopian drama television series created by Graham Yost, based on the Silo trilogy of novels (Wool, Shift, and Dust) by author Hugh Howey. It stars Rebecca Ferguson, Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, Avi Nash, Rick Gomez, Chinaza Uche, Shane McRae, Remmie Milner, Alexandria Riley, Clare Perkins, Billy Postlethwaite, and Steve Zahn.

The development of Wool began in 2012 when 20th Century Fox acquired the rights to Hugh Howey’s self-published e-book. Ridley Scott and Steven Zaillian were initially attached to produce the film, with J Blakeson in talks to write and direct. However, after a few shifts in the project, Nicole Perlman was brought in to rewrite the screenplay in 2015, and Blakeson was no longer involved. Ultimately, the project was shelved after the Disney acquisition of 21st Century Fox.

In 2018, the project was reimagined as a television series for AMC, with LaToya Morgan onboard as writer. By 2021, the series shifted to Apple TV+, where it was greenlit for ten episodes, with Graham Yost taking over as creator and showrunner. Morten Tyldum was also attached to direct and executive produce. In June 2023, the series was renewed for a second season. In April 2024, Rebecca Ferguson revealed that seasons 3 and 4 would be filmed back-to-back to conclude the series. By December 2024, it was confirmed that the series would officially end with its fourth season.

The show’s writers include Jessica Blaire, Cassie Pappas, Ingrid Escajeda, Remi Aubuchon, Aric Avelino, Jeffery Wang, Lekethia Dalcoe, and Fred Golan. Ferguson was cast in a leading role from the start, followed by Tim Robbins in August 2021. Other notable cast members, such as Rashida Jones, David Oyelowo, Common, Harriet Walter, Avi Nash, and Chinaza Uche, joined soon after. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, it was announced that Steve Zahn would join the cast for season two. In January 2025, Ashley Zukerman and Jessica Henwick were confirmed as series regulars for the third season.

Filming for the first season began in late August 2021 in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, continuing through the second quarter of 2022. Cinematographers Mark Patten, David Luther, and Laurie Rose worked on the project, while Gavin Bocquet designed the main set, which includes three levels of stairs representing various locations.

Season two began filming in June 2023 at Hoddesdon Studios but was briefly halted in July due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming resumed in December 2023 and wrapped in March 2024. The third season commenced filming in October 2024, also in Hoddesdon Studios, with additional locations at OMA One and OMA X Film Studios in Enfield, London.

Silo Release Date

Silo had its special screening during the 2023 Canneseries on April 14, 2023. The television series premiered on Apple TV+ on May 5, 2023, with the first two episodes available immediately and the rest airing on a weekly basis through June 30.

The second season premiered on November 15, 2024. Both seasons received positive reviews from critics, particularly for the world-building, production design and Ferguson’s performance. In December 2024, the series was renewed for both a third season and a concluding fourth season.
