Storyline

This film is a depiction of the contrast between father and son`s beliefs. The son, a police officer, believes that any deed of his should be broadcasted whereas the father, an intelligence officer, spent thirty-two years in prison for the greater good. Will they ever understand each other?

About Sardar Movie

Sardar is a Tamil spy action-thriller film directed by P. S. Mithran, who co-wrote the script with Pon Parthiban, Roju, Bipin Ragu, Geevee. The film stars Karthi in a dual role alongside Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Chunky Pandey, Laila, Rithvik, Munishkanth, Avinash, Yugi Sethu and Balaji Sakthivel in pivotal roles.

Karthi plays a dual role as Agent Chandra Bose alias Sardar, an ex-RAW field operative and Vijay’s father, and Inspector Vijay Prakash, a publicity-hungry police officer and Sardar’s son.

In October 2020, sources claimed that Karthi was reported to star in new film helmed by P. S. Mithran, who directed Vishal’s Irumbu Thirai (2018) and Sivakarthikeyan’s Hero (2019).

The film was officially announced on 14 November 2020 (on Diwali), coinciding puja at the Prince Pictures.

In April 2021, Raashii Khanna was announced as a lead actress to star opposite Karthi, with Simran being signed to play a social activist role in the film.

The makers announced that Chunky Panday was cast as the main antagonist in the film, which marks his debut in Tamil cinema.

In May 2021, Rajisha Vijayan was announced as the second female lead. In March, Simran opts out of the project due to her sitting schedule conflicts. Instead, actress Laila signed the project in the same month, marking her return to the cinema industry after 16 16-year break.

Then, the first day of shooting was started on 26 April 2021. Due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the shooting was halted on 29 April 2021 after two days of shooting at Chennai. The shoots resumed on January 9, 2022. The makers constructed a set worth of 2 crores, planning to shoot major portions of the film on the sets in the meantime.

Raashii Khanna joins the sets on February 5, 2022. And second schedule begins on March 19, 2022. her portions were filmed for 12 days in Chennai, Mumbai, and Mysore.

Chunky Panday’s major portions were filmed in the Parliament building, Azerbaijan and Georgia so far the makers have spent more 4 crore for the sets.

The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film were bought by Aha. The satellite rights of the film were sold to Kalaignar TV, even before the shootings. The film had its digital premiere on the streaming platform on 18 November 2022.

The sequel of the film was officially announced by the production house, on the film’s success meet, which was held on 27 October 2022. It is tentatively titled as Sardar 2.

Sardar Release Date

Sardar was released theatrically on 21 October 2022, prior to Diwali week, and received highly positive reviews from critics and audiences, and critically and commercially successful, Sardar has a worldwide gross of over ₹103.50 crore (US$13 million) worldwide, making it one of the top-grossing Tamil films of 2022.
