Priyotoma Storyline

Sumon, devastated by his brother’s demise, embarked on a journey to a distant city to retrieve funds from his brother’s business associate. Little did he know that this endeavor would lead him down a path of unforeseen love. In a twist of fate, Sumon found himself entangled in the arms of a politician’s daughter, an encounter that would forever alter the course of his existence. This tragic love story left an indelible mark on Sumon’s life, shattering his world and leaving him forever transformed.

About Priyotoma Movie

Priyotoma is a Bangladeshi romantic action drama film directed by Himel Ashraf, marking his second directorial venture. The screenplay was co-written by Ashraf and the late Faruk Hossain, who originally penned the story. The film stars Shakib Khan, Idhika Paul, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Lutfur Rahman George in lead roles.

In 2017, Shakib Khan announced the film under his production. However, it wasn’t until six years later that principal photography officially began on May 8, 2023, under Arshad Adnan’s production. The shooting was completed on June 21, 2023. The film was shot mostly in Dhaka, Sylhet, and Sunamganj, with sporadic schedules in Cox’s Bazar and Bandarban.

The film’s first look was unveiled on June 2, 2023, featuring Shakib Khan standing in the rain with long, slicked-back hair, a sad expression, and a cigarette in his mouth. Upon its release, the poster received critical acclaim from both audiences and critics and went viral on social media. A second look poster was released on May 28, 2023. Additionally, on June 17, a 30-second video teaser showcasing the film’s first look was revealed.

The first look poster of Priyotoma featured Shakib Khan with a lit cigarette on his lips. The absence of a warning message, despite the portrayal of smoking, sparked controversy and criticism. Many people raised concerns that such scenes in the film’s posters might encourage smoking. In response, the Bangladesh Anti-Tobacco Alliance issued a statement condemning the violation of the Smoking and Use of Tobacco Products (Control) Act. The filmmaker later addressed the issue and made the necessary adjustments.

Priyotoma marks the first collaboration between Shakib Khan and Idhika Paul. Following the success of this film, the duo is set to reunite for their second collaboration in the movie Borbaad, released on 31 March 2025.
